About ABCS

The Association of Bulgarian Chevening Scholars (ABCS) is an association of young Bulgarians who have been granted a Chevening scholarship for study in the United Kingdom. It was created in 2005 with the kind support of the British Council. The Association meets regularly (about once a month) to discuss current and future projects in the areas of civil society, culture, education, European integration.

What is Chevening?

The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. Funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office with contributions from the Higher Education Institutes in the UK, the private sector, and some other Whitehall Departments, the scheme operates in over 150 countries and annually provides funding for over 2,300 students. In Bulgaria the scheme is administered by the British Council and the Open Society Institute.

Project "Integrative Education"

As part of the project aiming to integrate Bulgarian students of different social backgrounds, in the spring of 2006 ABCS announced a competition for students’ compositions and drawings in schools in the towns of Mezdra, Troyan and Mirkovo.
